Welcome to the word garden

We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion.

The Sanctuary of Medium

Medium is a platform for bloggers, in which I’ve found a humble home. It’s given me a chance to write conversationally, which is something I adore doing. As an assignment for my online design class, I started writing a mini series on how to get through a breakup when you have no time to properly grieve. Not only has it been a joy to create, it’s also help me refine my skills in blog-style writing. I’ve learnt about proper paragraph breaks, the correct inclusion of photos, and ultimately how to write for the web.

Writing on a Technicality

A major shift for me in term one of the Radio A&E program was learning the art of technical writing. My academic life went from doing anything you could to meet your word count, to cutting out half of my story because it was thirty seconds too long. I’ve learnt to be concise and informative in my writing, while still maintaining a conversational flow. To the left is my final draft for a sixty-second elevator pitch to CBC Radio One for a program that raises awareness about the underfunding crisis in women’s reproductive health research. To the left is an editorial piece I wrote about whether or not artificial sweetener is the healthier alternative to sugar. Both pieces were timed to the exact second of their criteria requirements, while sustaining their informational integrity as well as that smooth glide writing for journalism calls for.
